Corll Horsemanship Training

~We are Certified John Lyons Trainers~
Becoming Certified Trainers has been a very rewarding experience for us. We have learned so much from both of these men as well as from our horses.

We've designed our programs to help you train your horse with proven gentle methods that will help you succeed in having the partnership you have always dreamed of. You will learn how to teach your horse to willingly give you softness, control and respect. Whatever your riding experience or discipline, you can learn to improve ground control, control under saddle, loading, clipping, starting young horses or retraining older horses. There are so many ways to improve your relationship and enjoy your horse. We want to help you expand your level of communication with your horse and skills as a horseperson.

Most of our clinics are limited to six participants per session so that we may devote as much time as we can to each individual. We will gladly hold your reservation with a $50.00 non-refundable deposit.

$150.00 - One day clinic for participant and their horse

$300 - Two day clinic for participant and their horse
Two day clinics also include a Friday night FREE demo which we highly recommend. This demo gets us working on your clinic first thing in the morning as we can get forms filled out and a demonstration of some things that will be covered.

You can also come to any clinic as an observer for $25 per day.

Clinics include, but are not limited to:
Round Pen Work & Ground Control ~ Bridle Control ~ Basic Riding
Handling Fear ~ Trailer Loading ~ Advanced Riding ~ Trail Clinic

"Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labor. For if they fall, one will lift up his companion."
Ecclesiastes 4:9-10

This is so true for any partnership, regardless if it is between two people or a rider and their horse. And the better the partnership, the better the reward. There is nothing more satisfying than having mutual respect and trust between you and your horse, knowing you will receive positive feedback to your requests. This is the foundation we build everything upon. We highly recommend people be educated to train their horse. The reason is this, everyone has their own body language and mannerisms. Horses rely on body language as a way of communication, and communication is the key to the perfect relationship between rider and horse. Sometimes the slightest idiosyncrasy makes the biggest difference in the response of the horse.

Round Pen Work & Ground Control:

This is where fundamental training begins. Any age of horse can be worked with these proven gentle methods. Control and respect are gained without any physical contact. This means no touching or tethering of the horse. This freedom allows the horse to make his own decisions, which in turn encourages him to learn commands faster, gradually gaining and maintaining confidence.

Having problems leading or have a horse that is pushy? This clinic also helps reestablish trust and respect.

Bridle Control:
Bridle control is the next step in the process of developing your partnership. When you teach bridle work to your horse, you gain even more responsiveness and reinforce everything you will be asking for in the saddle. You can teach all of your cues from the ground before you even get on your horse.

Basic Riding:
Getting on your horse for the first time will be safe if you have done the round pen and bridle work beforehand. We'll also teach you such basics as proper mounting and riding positions. Then you are ready for your first ride!

Handling Fear:
Fear. This is a dangerous thing when it happens between horse and rider. When either party is afraid, there is the possibility of losing control. When control is lost, someone will get hurt.

One needs to realize that horses do not react to fear in the same way people do. For thousands of years, horses have survived because of their flight instinct. They react rather than reason. When they come upon unfamiliar situations, they will more than likely spook and try to flee than stay to see if there really is a danger. A rider must strive to encourage his horse to overcome it's own naturally occurring fear. Since horses are by nature herd animals, the rider must take the position of herd leader. Horses put their trust and confidence into their leader for their safety and well being. They depend on the leader to keep them safe from any danger.

When a rider is afraid, the horse can sense it. We want to teach new riders or those who have had bad experiences how to keep control when fear does arise without ever getting on the horse. We do this through ground control and bridle control. It is through the repetition of cues that will build confidence in both rider and horse. The goal is to get the horse so responsive to these cues, that no matter how afraid or distracted he gets he will focus back on the rider and his directions. The rider then has the confidence in knowing that the horse will respond in a positive manner when given routine instructions or even when frightening circumstances occur.

Trailer Loading:
Ready to go and he won't load? We can help you teach your horse to load himself. This is the safest way for you and your horse when you need to trailer him. You can make loading a breeze!

Advanced Riding:
Learn how to make working in the arena fun and rewarding for yourself as well as your partner. Learn how to teach shoulder control, lead changes, sliding stops and much more. The possibilities are endless.

Trail Clinic:
Trail clinic for our friends who want to have a great time relaxing with their horses! Not everyone wants to be competitive, but everyone wants to have a great ride! Learn how to train your horse every time you ride, even when you are going down the trail.
